Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was quite emotional while tooting his own horn during a press conference on Monday.

Jones, who decided to part ways with Mike McCarthy this month, has hired his replacement, appointing Brian Schottenheimer as the team’s new head coach. He views the decision as one that should dispel the notion that he is afraid of taking risks.

The Cowboys owner wants some credit for hiring Schottenheimer and doesn’t mind giving it to himself if it won’t come from anywhere else.

He even got close to tears as he talked up his ability to find great coaches, although the Cowboys haven’t been to an NFC Championship Game since 1995.

“I have a good background in the makeup of what a coach is,” he told reporters during an introductory presser for his new head coach on Monday.

The 82-year-old went on to explain that his decision wasn’t based on an interview.
