Selena Gomez ‘loses 700,000 followers’ over one now deleted post on Instagram.
Posting to her Instagram Stories on 27 January, the singer shared a video of herself sobbing and said: “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand.
“I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise,”.
Despite being born in the US, Gomez’ father is of Mexican descent and she calls herself a ‘proud third-generation American-Mexican’.
Not long after posting the video, she deleted it and uploaded a black screen with the caption: “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”
CritiqueJeu looked into the billionaire’s social media accounts and discovered the star had reportedly lost over 700,000 Instagram followers in the space of 30 days.
Paul Lenglet, co-founder and editor of CritiqueJeu, said: “Selena Gomez had a great end to 2024, but the start of 2025 has not been so gentle on her.
“The star has been facing many criticisms over her participation and performance on Emilia Pérez, a film directed and filmed in Paris, but with a story that takes place in Mexico.”
The company claimed Gomez lost 808,500 followers in 30 days.
President Trump’s latest order meant 956 people were arrested in just one day, due to an immigration crackdown. The BBC also reported that a further 286 people were arrested on Saturday and 593 on Friday, with 538 being arrested on Thursday.
ICE revealed that over 1000 people were removed on Thursday.
Trump called the situation at the US-Mexico border a ‘national emergency’, calling for armed forces to patrol the border.
He also shared that the Mexican drug cartels are ‘foreign terrorist organizations’ and that the automatic citizenship that was given to children of undocumented immigrants will no longer be granted.
Citizenship is classed as ‘a priceless and profound gift’.
The US Refugee Admissions Programme has been suspended ‘until such time as the further entry into the United States of refugees aligns with the interests of the United States’.
“The Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security may jointly determine to admit aliens to the United States as refugees on a case-by-case basis, in their discretion, but only so long as they determine that the entry of such aliens as refugees is in the national interest and does not pose a threat to the security or welfare of the United States.”
Senate candidate Sam Parker shared screenshots of the singer’s video, along with the caption: “Selena Gomez picked illegals over America b/c she’s the 3rd gen descendent of Mexican illegals who received citizenship in the ’87 Amnesty,”.
“She has an entitlement attitude toward America, like her illegal g’parents. Maybe Selena should be deported, too?”
Now, Gomez has responded.
Sharing to her Instagram Stories, she wrote: “Oh Mr. Parker Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat,”.
