Squid Games Star Dies Just Months After Series 2 Release

A ‘Squid Games’ actor has sadly died only months after the release of series 2.

Lee Joo-Sil, a well known South Korean actress who played Park Mal Soon, the mother of Hwang Jun Ho (Wi Ha Joon) and stepmother of Hwang In Ho (Lee Byung Hun) in the second season was sadly battling stomach cancer and passed age 81.

She had battled breast cancer 30 years prior and was given one month to live at the time. She battled through it for an incredible 13 years and was declared cancer free.

Sadly, in November 2024, she was diagnosed with stomach cancer after a routine check up with her doctor.

A funeral will be held today, February 5, at Shinchon Severance Hospital in South Korea.

Her incredible career started in 1964 and gained popularity for her incredible voice and as an on-screen actor. She will be remembered for her roles in ‘Train to Busan’ and ‘The Uncanny Counter’ as well as ‘Squid Games’.
