UNLV Rebels offensive lineman Ben Christman has shockingly passed away at the age of 21.

The senior player, who transferred from Kentucky after last season, was found dead in an off-campus apartment on Tuesday.

According to the Associated Press, the university divulged news of the player’s passing but could not reveal a cause of death as they remain unaware of what caused Christman to lose his life. The school is waiting on the findings of the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

They also revealed that the player’s family and the team had been informed and that counseling would be offered.

UNLV has since put out a statement in which they praise Ben Christman’s leadership, noting he made the program better from the day he joined.

“Our team’s heart is broken to hear of Ben’s passing,” head coach Dan Mullen said in a statement. “Since the day Ben set foot on our campus a month ago, he made the Rebels a better program. Ben was an easy choice for our leadership committee as he had earned the immediate respect, admiration and friendship of all his teammates. Our prayers go out to his family and all who knew him. Ben made the world a better place and he will be missed.”
