A kayaker is lucky to be alive after being swallowed by a humpback whale while out at sea.
You’d probably have to go back to Bible days to find the last time someone was swallowed by a whale and then expelled. Who knows? It’s probably happened a few times since then, but we’ll admit that whale diet choices are not high on our list of things to research.
Between Jonah and Adrian Simancas, we can’t be sure anything like this has ever happened.
Maybe Pinocchio?
If not, Adrian has something pretty unique to boast about, and it’s actually even more impressive in his case as he wasn’t out on a mission for God – he was just kayaking with his father.
Adrian was paddling off the coast of Chile in the Strait of Magellan, enjoying the water as he had probably done several times before, when a humpback whale came out of nowhere and took a gulp, downing him whole.
Amazingly enough, his dad caught the whole thing on camera.

Fortunately for both of them, Simancas was not to the giant mammal’s taste and got spat out a few seconds later.
His father could be heard asking him to stay calm after he was released.
“I thought I was dead,” Adrian said. “I thought it had eaten me, that it had swallowed me.”
The 24-year-old still had plenty to worry about after he was spat out by the whale.
“When I came up and started floating, I was scared that something might happen to my father too, that we wouldn’t reach the shore in time, or that I would get hypothermia,” he explained.
They both managed to get back to shore safely with one hell of a story to tell.
Literally, no one would have believed them had it not been caught on tape.
