Luigi Mangione, the man arrested in the grizzly killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, might be set fee.
Mangione has been charged with murder in New York in connection with the Dec. 4 shooting outside the New York Hilton Midtown in Manhattan.
Mangione may still be on the run if he did not try and eat breakfast at McDonald’s after that shooting.
Regarding McDonald’s arrest, it may now lead to a mistrial when all is said and done.
A Blair County defense attorney asked a judge to release Luigi Mangione from custody due to him being unlawfully interrogated and searched before his arrest in Altoona.
The 26-year-old Ivy League graduate from a prominent Maryland real estate family was arrested in the restaurant after a store employee called 911. Cops showed up, and Mangione was arrested after a line of questioning caught him in several lies.
He was also found with evidence on him.
Attorney Thomas Dickey outlined his request this week as part of a 23-page pretrial motion.

Dickey said Mangione was frisked and surrounded by officers who gave him no indication he was free to leave the restaurant until well after he was under unlawful detention and “custodial interrogation” for 17 minutes.
Luigi Mangione’s lawyer filed a motion to exclude from trial some of the evidence Altoona police got from him immediately after his arrest.

Luigi Mangione, accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024, is set to stand trial in New York.
He faces both state and federal charges but will go to court on the state charges first.
Mangione is facing 11 state criminal counts in New York, and if convicted, he would face a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
