Social media is blasting Justin Trudeau for crying in front of reporters during one of his final press conferences as the Prime Minister of Canada.
On Jan. 6, Justin Trudeau announced that he was resigning as the Prime Minister after 10 years in office. Trudeau will formally leave after the Liberal Party of Canada names its new leader, with the leadership race closing on Sunday.
Per Rachel Aiello of CTV News, Prime Minister Trudeau was emotional at his press conference while discussing Canada’s $10 a-day-child care program before vowing to not let down Canadians:
“Child care is a matter of fairness. It strengthens our economy, makes it more resilient, and that’s never been as important as it is right now,” Trudeau said, after noting the program “supported families through a cost-of-living crisis, and it even helped avoid a recession…
There is nothing one government can do that can’t be undone by the following government, unless, unless Canadians are very clear on the need to keep this going…
I’ve made sure that every single day in this office I put Canadians first, that I have people’s backs, and that’s why I’m here to tell you all, that we’ve got you. Even in the very last days of this government, we will not let Canadians down.”
Trump supporter Collin Rugg shared the video and called the Prime Minister “pathetic” for crying in front of reporters:

“Says the guy who debanked and jailed Canadians for disagreeing with him. What a joke,” said another.
“Pathetic doesn’t even cover it. Crocodile tears won’t fix the ruin he’s turned this good country into—still acting like he’s the savior while pushing the blame onto Trump. Canadians are scolding him, but his thick skin keeps him blind. What a liar, full of lies,” quipped a user.
“Im sure all of the Canadian truckers are rushing to share their support for him,” said another.
“Justin Trudeau is exactly what a leader shouldn’t be!” a user said.
Trudeau won a majority government in 2015 after defeating Conservative leader Stephen Harper, who also had 10 years in office. Trudeau won minority governments in 2019 and 2021 but was performing unfavorably in the polls before announcing his resignation.

Trudeau’s final weeks in office have been mostly occupied by Canada’s ongoing trade war with President Donald Trump and the United States.
Despite the two nations being historically strong allies, Trump and Trudeau have publicly called out one another. On Tuesday, Trudeau took a shot at Trump by stating that the tariffs he imposed on Canada was “a very dumb thing to do.”
