Former NFL Rookie of the Year Paul Flatley of the Minnesota Vikings has passed away.

Drafted by the Vikings and AFL’s Denver Broncos out of Northwestern, he would make noise in the league by breaking Jerry Reichow’s franchise record when recording 51 receptions in his first year with Minnesota. He also had 867 yards and four touchdowns.

Those 51 receptions stood as a franchise record until 1998.

He played the first five of his eight NFL seasons in Minnesota before being traded to the Falcons in 1968, where he spent three years.

After his playing career, he was a color commentator for the University of Minnesota football broadcast team.
