Victims identified after deadly boating accident on St. Johns River

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The three people who went missing after a boat capsized in the St. Johns River on Friday have been identified as a father and his two children, the victim’s employer confirmed in a Facebook post Monday.

The father is Cristian Marin, who worked for Florida Homes Realty & Mortgage, a real estate firm in Jacksonville.

The bodies of three people have been found: Marin, his mother and one of his children.

Eight people were on board the boat when it capsized Friday night, according to police. Four people were found alive, one person was found dead and three were considered missing.

Since Saturday, authorities have located two bodies, an adult and a child. At this time, one child remains missing.

Although the U.S. Coast Guard suspended their search on Saturday, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, along with other agencies, are still actively searching for the child. FWC is leading the investigation.

The mother of the child still missing has asked for her child’s picture to be shared in hopes that someone finds her.

What Happened?

The Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville was notified around 7 p.m. Friday of a capsized boat near the Dames Point Bridge in Jacksonville and alerted other agencies to respond.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said crews responded to the area around 8 p.m. with multiple people in the water.

Crews responded with four rescue boats to the scene, rescuing four people who were aboard an 18-foot boat from the water.

JFRD said crews were told four other people were still missing, including two children, prompting a search.

First responders with JFRD, the U.S. Coast Guard, JSO, FWC and others were on scene Friday searching, finding one person dead near the boat.

The Coast Guard and other agencies continued searching overnight, while JFRD crews resumed the search Saturday morning, officials said.

JSO then confirmed Sunday night that one of the missing boaters was found dead, and two were still missing.

Then, on Monday, the FWC said two of the three boaters reported missing had been found dead.

Authorities are continuing their search for the remaining missing child.

The Coast Guard said no one aboard the vessel was reportedly wearing lifejackets.

GoFundMe has been created to help the family of the missing boaters.
