JD Vance pleaded with the people of Greenland to reconsider becoming a part of the US
JD Vance has faced significant criticism due to using one particular phrase in speech where he pleaded with the people of Greenland to join the US.
Donald Trump’s administration has repeatedly made it clear that they want Greenland to become a part of the country.
Vice President JD Vance is currently on a seemingly uninvited trip to Greenland which is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, and reiterated the US’s determination to acquire the nation.
However, it seems the US has been hit with a trifecta of ‘we are not interested’ responses from the people of Greenland, politicians of the nation as well as Denmark.
Speaking at a military base on Friday (March 28), Vance has faced criticism for a surprising comment he made in relation to Trump.
People on social media have likened it to the attitudes seen in North Korea.

Answering a question from a reporter about Trump’s latest comments about Greenland, he said: “Well, the president said we have to have Greenland and I think that we do have to be more serious about the security of Greenland.
“We can’t just ignore this place, we can’t just ignore the president’s desires but most importantly we can’t ignore what I said earlier, that is the Russian and Chinese encroachment in Greenland, we have to do more.
“What the president said in his state of the union address, he was very clear about this, we respect the self determination of the people of Greenland, but my argument again to them is that I think you would be a lot better coming under the United States security umbrella than you have been under Denmark’s security umbrella.”
Vance continued to take shots at Denmark and insisted that the nation of Greenland simply wasn’t safe.
He added that President Trump cares about the safety of the people of Greenland, as well as the citizens of the US.

He concluded by saying: “We hope that they choose to partner with the United States because we are the only nation on Earth that will respect their sovereignty and their security because their security is very much our security.”
Now you can imagine people on social media could take issue with a whole host of things with what the vice president said, however it was only one line that got it compared to North Korea.
When Vance said ‘we can’t just ignore the President’s desires’ it was this phrase that drew the greatest criticism and comparisons to the dictatorship seen in North Korea led by Kim Jong-un.
One person on social media said: “‘We cannot just ignore the president’s desires’, is this North Korea?”
Another said: “Wow that is a bad line. That is the line of the supreme leader…”
A third remarked: “I hear his words as ‘We don’t have to think about why the dear leader wants something, it’s just enough to know that he wants it. And that makes it our duty to give it to him at all costs.'”
With another adding: “They don’t even sound like 19th century colonizers anymore. They sound like cheap science fiction despots.”
