Mary Kate Cornett is not only fighting back to restore her name, but she plans on taking her fight to a court of law.
The Ole Miss freshman has engaged legal representation and says she intends to sue McAfee, ESPN, and potentially others over what happened to her in February.
The 18-year-old was thrown into the middle of a cyberstorm after online posts claimed she was sleeping with the father of her boyfriend, Evan Solis.
Mary Kate and Evan, University of Mississippi freshmen, were also forced to deny the claims on Instagram before the authorities were contacted.
The FBI and local police were said to be trying to hunt down the people responsible for the initial posts.
The teenage Ole Miss student embroiled in the false rumor has broken her silence and wants people to be held accountable.
“You’re ruining my life by talking about it on your show for nothing but attention, but here I am staying up until 5 in the morning, every night, throwing up, not eating because I’m so anxious about what’s going to happen for the rest of my life.”
After news broke of the incoming lawsuit, social media didn’t shy away from sharing their thoughts. One fan of the Pat McAfee Show pointed out how the crew was merely discussing a viral story that everyone was talking about at the time.
“Dude what? Regardless of whether it was true or not the whole world was talking about this for 48 hours,” they stated. “Of course they had to touch on the topic at the time.”
Some thought this was nothing more than an April Fools joke.

During this time, Cornett was said to have taken her boyfriend’s younger sister to a basketball game with his father. According to the unverified message, Cornett and Solis went out for dinner and drinks after dropping off the child, and the two of them allegedly had sex.

The boyfriend of University of Mississippi student Mary Kate Cornett joined his girlfriend in decrying the salacious allegations claiming she slept with his father.
The allegations spread like wildfire, forcing the University of Mississippi freshman and her boyfriend to publicly deny them on Instagram.
“The unbelievable rumors about my family and Mary Kate’s are unacceptable and need to be addressed,” he wrote in an Instagram post back in February.
“The accusations are unequivocally false. Also, my faith in my father and our relationship is unwavering. He is wholly innocent and being unfairly slandered with no opportunity to speak on his own behalf prior to these horrendously false statements.”
Just like she is doing now, Cornett called out ESPN personality Pat McAfee, former NFL player Antonio Brown, and Barstool Sports for amplifying the “utter and complete lies.”
