The suspect involved in the fatal shooting at Florida State University on Thursday has been identified.
The school’s campus was the scene of yet another U.S. college shooting; this one left two people dead and six more nursing serious injuries. FSU sent out an alert around midday on the day, warning people of an active shooter on campus after bullets rang out near the student union.
They urged everyone to seek shelter while asking anyone who wasn’t on campus to refrain from entering.
According to reports, a suspect was apprehended after a shootout with police that left him injured, and he was taken into custody after receiving medical attention.
ESPN is reporting that the shooter has been identified as a 20-year-old FSU student, Phoenix Ikner. He is said to be the son of a Leon County sheriff’s deputy and had access to one of her weapons, with that handgun found on the scene.
Officials said he also had a shotgun.

Florida State Cancels All Sporting Events For The Week
Florida State canceled classes for the rest of the week, while all athletic events through Sunday have been scratched.
“Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with everyone at Florida State University, the Tallahassee community, and all those affected by today’s tragic event,” ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said.
The deceased victims did not attend the university.
The Seminoles football program was scheduled to hold its last two spring practices this week, while their baseball and softball teams were set to host games against Virginia and Georgia Tech, respectively.
