Shedeur Sanders has opened up on United States President Donald Trump lashing out at NFL owners after his fall in the draft.

The former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback was tipped to be an early first-round pick after an impressive second season in Boulder, which saw him named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and win the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. However, he slipped all the way to the fifth round in a shocking turn of events.

The initial drop from the first round elicited a harsh post from the POTUS, who took to his Truth Social platform to blast the league.

“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID? Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart,” he wrote. “Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!”

The New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Las Vegas Raiders were listed as likely destinations, but all passed on Shedeur. The Cleveland Browns, also an expected landing spot, took the QB, but several picks after drafting Dillon Gabriel.

The quarterback started rookie minicamp with Cleveland this week and discussed Trump’s comments while speaking to reporters.

Sanders claimed he was “truly thankful” to see the President speak such strong words in his favor.

“I was truly thankful,” he said. “I was truly thankful for it. Including him there is a lot of fans, a lot of people in barbershops, a lot of hairstylists, a lot of fans of me and of my craft and of my family that was there to support. I was just thankful that I have that foundation overall. As people, we could all come together as one.”

Having a U.S. President take time out of his busy schedule to back an athlete is certainly a flex. But it won’t buy Shedeur Sanders any favors; he’ll have to prove his worth on his own.
