One American soldier is dead following a horrific training accident at the Fort Campbell Army base in Kentucky around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday night.

The Associated Press has reported that a helicopter training incident at the base killed one soldier, while another was seriously injured.

Additional details were not disclosed, nor were the persons involved identified. However, it was noted that the injured soldier was treated at the Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and is in stable condition.

“No matter how it happens, when we lose someone who has committed to serving our country, I know it hurts that family but it should hurt us all,” Governor Andy Beshear said on Thursday.

Kentucky State Senator Craig Richardson described the incident as heartbreaking, adding that there are risks on U.S. soil when one is called to serve.

“This tragedy is a solemn reminder that the dangers our military faces are not limited to distant battlefields,” he said. “The call to serve brings risks at home, in training, preparation, and quiet readiness.”

This isn’t the first helicopter crash to occur at Fort Campbell. Back in 2023, nine soldiers from the 101st Airborne died in training when two HH-60 Black Hawk medevac choppers collided.

This week’s accident is under investigation.

TPS extends sincere condolences to the families impacted by this tragedy.
