Social media detectives noticed President Donald Trump wearing something fascinating at the 2025 G7 Summit, and it’s safe to say that a large number of his fanbase can’t be happy about it.

Donald Trump was among the world leaders to attend the 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, chaired by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Trump left the two-day event on Monday to focus on the Israel-Iran conflict, the White House said.

Along with Trump and Carney, other world leaders who attended the summit included United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron.

During the event, social media detectives noticed that President Donald Trump was wearing a lapel pin with the American and Canadian flags together, placed below his standard U.S flag pin:

This is compelling because Trump has controversially pushed for Canada to become the 51st state since he resumed office in January. Both Carney and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have emphasized that the country is “not for sale”, with Trudeau retaliating against Trump’s tariffs on Canada before leaving office.

Trump’s push for Canada to become part of the U.S., along with Carney’s handling of the issue, has been widely regarded as a key reason why the latter and his Liberals were victorious in the Canadian federal election.

You never know when it might start up again, but Trump has cooled off on his idea of Canada becoming America’s 51st state…for now.

Though Trump was often critical of Trudeau during the latter’s nine years in office, the POTUS and Carney have maintained a professional relationship, by all accounts. Trump hasn’t gone after Carney the way he has with other political rivals or world leaders, so perhaps he’s ready to give up the push for Canada to join the U.S.
