LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – What started as a celebration to kick off summer break ended in tragedy for a family in Lynn Haven.
“I recently had a baby and I’ve been stationed in Tampa in the NICU dealing with my micro preemie baby,” said Kristine Robinson. “My girls were up here having some fun, school just got out. They were out of barbecue with my sister and their cousins. They were on the tube, having a great time.”
It was during that celebration that Kristine Robinson’s two daughters, Laila, 8, and Brylee, 9, went tubing with their 11-year-old cousin Jordan.
Once out on the water, things took a turn, resulting in the three girls crashing from their tube.
“You know Jordan has gained her angel wings, and Laila has a long, long road ahead of her, when we’ve already got surgery one down,” said Robinson. “We are still working on getting her next couple surgeries done.”
Robinson’s daughter Brylee managed to get out of the accident with a couple of bruises but now hopes to watch her sister recover while dealing with the loss of a cousin who was more like a sister.
“Jordan has always been the protector of all the kids, like you can’t tell her no different,” explained Robinson. “Jordan sacrificed her life, and she saved her cousin’s life with her life. And that’s all she knew what to do. She’s always been the protector of her family of all the kids, and I truly believe she saved her cousin’s life.”
With everything she and her family are going through, Robinson wants others to learn from their tragedy.
“I just ask everyone, hold your babies tight,” she said. “Give them a hug because some of us can’t, and when you are on the water, we all want to have fun, it is summer. We all want to have fun with our kids. Please be careful.”
The family has since shared two GoFundMe pages, one for Laila’s transportation and the other for Jordan’s funeral.
The FWC says the accident is still under investigation. They are asking for people who witnessed the incident or for those who may have video footage of it to call their hotline.
