A “beloved” coach and his wife were found dead amid the aftermath of this weekend’s flooding in Texas. Reece Zunker, a Kerrville resident and soccer coach, and his wife, Paula, were reportedly among those who perished in the July 4 flash flood.
Kerr County and the Texas Hill Country were unexpectedly hit by torrential rain over the weekend, which resulted in rapidly rising waters that claimed dozens of lives.
Over 50 people have been killed, while several more are missing.
Zunker and his wife, who were both teachers at Tivy High School in Kerrville, were declared dead in an alert.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of our beloved teachers, Reece Zunker, and his wife, Paula, who tragically lost their lives in the flash flood on July 4th,” it states.
Zunker Children Still Missing After Texas Flood

Reece was also described as a “passionate educator and a beloved soccer coach” whose dedication to his students will “never be forgotten.”
Paula was a former teacher at the high school.
“The care and impact she shared with her students continue to be felt, even years later,” the alert notes.
The couple’s children, Lyle and Holland, were still missing at the time of writing.
“Our Tivy Soccer and KISD community is heartbroken with the loss of our leader and inspiration,” Tivy Boys Soccer said in a Facebook post. “Coach Reece Zunker was not just a soccer coach he was a mentor, teacher and role model for our Kerrville kids.”
Our hearts go out to Zunker’s family and loved ones while we hold out hope that their children will be found.
