Tensions are high in San Francisco as discord arises between 49ers wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings. Despite the team’s solid performance over the past ten years, the 49ers are facing a challenging offseason, largely due to issues surrounding Aiyuk.
The wide receiver has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with his current contract and has hinted at wanting a trade, stirring significant media attention and sparking trade rumors involving several teams. Aiyuk has even expressed a preference for playing with the Washington Commanders or the Pittsburgh more Steelers should he be traded.
The situation escalated further when Jennings responded to news of Aiyuk’s trade request by criticizing his teammate’s approach. Jennings shared his frustrations on Instagram, suggesting that Aiyuk is not acknowledging the contributions of his teammates.
“You gotta be a different type of person to act like you doing everything by yourself knowing dang well you not,” Jennings posted on his Instagram story shortly after the trade request reports emerged.

While Jennings did not specifically mention Aiyuk, the timing of his post seemed very telling. Brandon Aiyuk, who has built a strong connection with 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, could potentially leave San Francisco if they choose not to trade him.
In the last year of his rookie contract, Aiyuk stands to earn $14.1 million. Last season, Aiyuk made significant contributions to the team, catching 75 passes for a career-high 1,342 yards, according to ESPN, and playing a key role in the 49ers’ second NFC championship win in five years.
The negotiations between Aiyuk and the 49ers have hit a deadlock for several months. As reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the team has not been open to discussions since May.
Without a new contract or trade, Aiyuk is poised to go into the final year of his current contract, earning him $14.1 million for the season. Recent activity on social media suggests Aiyuk might be hinting at his next possible destination amid trade speculations.
