Prince Harry and William‘s cousin has tragically died aged 20.
Since the devastating news has broken, supporters of the royal family have issued condolences across social media.
One person writes: “How devastating to the Royals. Prayers and RIP.”
“What a heartbreaking loss to the family. My thoughts are with them,” a second user says.
“What a beautiful young soul,” a third pens. “Absolutely tragic.
Someone else writes: “My thoughts are with the royal family, too young.”
Rosie Roche had been studying English Literature at Durham University and was on her way to obtain a degree.
Before her passing, the 20-year-old had been packing and preparing for a getaway with her friends.
Durham University’s Principal, Professor Wendy Powers, said: “University College staff and students are extremely saddened by the tragic death of Rosie Roche.
“Rosie was a first-year student studying for an English Literature degree. Rosie had settled into the University and College beautifully and had lots of friends.
“She was loved for her creativity, energy, her love of books, poetry, and travel among many other talents. She will be sorely missed.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with Rosie’s family and friends, and we are offering support to those affected at this extremely difficult time”.
Roche was the granddaughter of Princess Diana’s uncle, the 5th Baron Fermoy, Edmund Roche, whose sister Frances was Princess Diana’s mother.
Her parents, Edmund Hugh Burke Roche and Pippa Long, have ties with the British aristocracy.
Roche’s obituary reads: ” Roche, Rosie Jeanne Burke died on Monday, 14th July 2025.
“Darling daughter of Hugh and Pippa, incredible sister to Archie and Agatha, Granddaughter to Derek and Rae Long. Private family funeral. A memorial service will be held at a later date.”
Roche’s mother and sister found her in their home close to Wiltshire, U.K. A firearm was found next to her.
During an inquest at Wiltshire and Swindon coroner’s court, coroner Grant Davies said police: “Have deemed the death as non-suspicious and there was no third-party involvement”.
Before Roche’s heartbreaking death, Thomas Kingston, who married Harry and William’s cousin Lady Gabriella Windsor in 2019, was found dead in February last year at his parents’ home in the Cotswolds.
Kingston was found with a firearm beside him, having suffered a ‘traumatic head wound.’
An inquest at Gloucestershire Coroners Court heard that police didn’t deem his death to be suspicious.
