Rob Schneider boycotts Paris Olympics over drag ‘Last Supper’ parody: ‘Openly celebrates Satan’

Rob Schneider is done with the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The actor and comedian, 60, announced he’s boycotting watching this year’s Olympic Games because of the controversial drag performance that parodied the Last Supper during the opening ceremony.

“I am sorry to say to ALL the world’s GREATEST ATHLETES, I wish you ALL THE BEST, but I cannot watch an Olympics that disrespects Christianity and openly celebrates Satan,” Schneider wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

“I sincerely hope THESE @Olympics get the same amount of viewers as @cspan,” he added.

In another tweet, Schneider included a photo from the drag performance and wrote, “Guys with their genitalia hanging out in front of children?! Drag Queens?! I wasn’t sure if I was watching the @Olympics or if I was watching a school board meeting…”

During the Olympics opening ceremony Friday, a group of 18 performers — including three familiar “Drag Race France” queens — struck poses behind what looked like a long table from the Last Supper. At the center was an ornately dressed woman with a large silver headdress that resembled a halo as depicted in paintings of Jesus.

Models stormed the stage for the impromptu fashion show that saw the supposed Last Supper-mockers swaying along the sidelines.

The showcase turned into a dance floor at the end, with “Drag Race France” host Nicky Doll strutting down the stage. Contestants Paloma and Piche were also part of the performance.

The Olympics said the performance — which featured DJ and producer Barbara Butch and was put together by the ceremony’s artistic director Thomas Jolly — was an “interpretation of the Greek God [of wine and festivity] Dionysus” to make “us aware of the absurdity of violence between human beings.”

But the performance sparked widespread backlash online from fans and other celebrities, who deemed it inappropriate and offensive.

Candace Cameron Bure, whose husband, Valeri Bure, is an Olympic medalist, called the drag performance “disgusting” in an Instagram video on Sunday.

“To watch such an incredible and wonderful event that’s gonna take place over the next two weeks and see the opening ceremonies completely blaspheme and mock the Christian faith with their interpretation of the Last Supper was disgusting,” said Bure, 48.

“And it made me so sad. And someone said, ‘You shouldn’t be sad. You should be mad about it.’ And I’m like, ‘Trust me. It makes me mad.’ But I’m more sad, because I’m sad for souls,” she added.

Elon Musk similarly slammed the drag performance.

“This was extremely disrespectful to Christians,” he wrote on X.

Jillian Michael said on X, “Dear fellow gays … We demand tolerance and respect but then make a mockery of something sacred for over 2 billion Christians. This type of hypocrisy and lack of understanding is a bad look. We get outraged when the extreme right bashes us, but then we do this s–t. What kind of reaction do you think they will have towards the LGBTQ+ community after this. This is NOT how we break down barriers it’s how you build them.”

Another critic of the drag performance was Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, who went viral in May for his commencement speech at Benedictine College, where he exhorted the female graduates to embrace their “vocation” in marriage and motherhood as opposed to careers.

“This is crazy,” Butker wrote on his Instagram Stories alongside a screenshot of the opening ceremony version.

Even the French Catholic Church’s conference of bishops criticized the scene.

“This ceremony has unfortunately included scenes of derision and mockery of Christianity, which we very deeply deplore,” the conference said in a statement.

The Paris Olympic organizers have since apologized for the controversial Last Supper parody.

“Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. On the contrary, I think (with) Thomas Jolly, we really did try to celebrate community tolerance,” spokesperson Anne Descamps said during a press conference on Sunday.

“Looking at the result of the polls that we shared, we believe that this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offense we are, of course, really, really sorry.”
