At least six people have died after a plane crashed into a residential area outside Nairobi, Kenya, on August 7, 2025. The Cessna Citation XLS, operated by AMREF Flying Doctors, took off from Wilson Airport at 2:14 p.m., heading to Somaliland. Just 40 minutes later, it went down in Mwihoko, Kiambu County, destroying buildings.
Officials confirmed that four people on board, including the pilot, were killed. Two more victims were inside a house hit by the plane, and two others were seriously injured. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident involving an air ambulance mission,” the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority said.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion before seeing flames and debris. Emergency crews and the Red Cross rushed to the scene, working to recover bodies and control the fire. The plane reportedly lost contact with air traffic control just three minutes after take-off.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. Tributes are pouring in for the victims as the community mourns the devastating loss.
