Mike Edwards’ good days in Kansas City are over.

The Kansas City Chiefs, just like every other team in the league, are going through roster cuts to trim their squad down to 53.

The roster will be cut to 53 players by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The team, which just released veteran quarterback Bailey Zappe, will eventually release a complete list of all of its moves — but until then, news about some of them will trickle out.

One of the earlier cuts has shocked a ton of fans online.

According to insider Tom Pelissero, the team plans to release veteran safety Mike Edwards.

Edwards, who won a Super Bowl against the Chiefs when he played for the Buccaneers in 2020, had previously signed a one-year, $2.8 million contract with Kansas City in April as an unrestricted free agent.

What’s Next For Veteran Safety Mike Edwards

Edwards, a former third-round pick of the Buccaneers in 2019, signed a deal with the Chiefs this past offseason. However, he was cut from the roster and will not play in a regular-season game for them as he did back in 2023.

Edwards logged 621 snaps for the Chiefs’ defense in 2023, so his removal was quite shocking.

In 2024, Edwards appeared in three games for the Bills and five games for the Buccaneers. He recorded 12 total tackles and a pass deflection.

Mike Edwards won’t be subject to waivers because he’s a vested veteran with six accrued seasons. Once the release is processed, he’ll be free to either re-sign with Kansas City’s practice squad or join another club’s active roster.

Following the Chiefs’ preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Andy Reid revealed that Edwards suffered a hamstring injury.

He sat out of the finale versus the Chicago Bears, which hurt him drastically when it came down to cuts.
