1 dead after early-morning Pasadena house fire

A person died after a house went up in flames in Pasadena early Saturday morning, according to authorities.

Preliminary information on the incident was initially limited. It was verified by the Verdugo Fire Communications Center that crews were called out to the 1500 block of Lancashire Place just after 6:20 a.m.

Officials with the Pasadena Fire Department confirmed to KTLA at 8 a.m. that, when firefighters got to the scene, they found a house that was “well-involved” with flames, indicating it had been burning for some time.

“Upon aggressive search and extinguishment, we did unfortunately locate a deceased individual,” Pasadena Fire Department Deputy Chief Anthony James said.

Crews were able to contain the flames to just the one home, and no injuries were reported.

The identity of the decedent was not immediately known, although a young boy who lives next door to the home that caught fire — and who woke his parents up to alert them to the danger — told KTLA that it was an elderly woman who “kept to herself.”

It was also unclear whether anyone else was inside the home at the time.

Crews blocked off Lancashire Place, a dead end street located off Lida Street in the North Arroyo neighborhood, as the scene was cleared and the investigation began.

There was no word on what started the fire, but Deputy Chief James noted that, since temperatures in the area will rise on Saturday, residents should be mindful of their activities and anything that could spark a flame.
