The Buffalo Bills have been dealt a significant injury blow ahead of their 2025 season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, losing defensive tackle DeWayne Carter for the entire campaign.
Carter, a third-round pick by the Bills last year, is set to undergo surgery after rupturing his Achilles tendon, with NFL insider Jordan Schultz reporting as much late on Sunday.
“Bills DT DeWayne Carter tore his Achilles and will miss the entire 2025 season,” Schultz tweeted. “The talented 2024 3rd-round pick was poised to be part of Buffalo’s defensive rotation this year. A tough blow.”
DeWayne Carter Was Set For A Bigger Role With The Bills In 2025
The Bills were linked with a move for Micah Parsons before he was traded to the Green Bay Packers, and may have actually considered a deal with the Dallas Cowboys.
What is certain is that Carter was expected to be a rotational option in their defensive line, having been listed as a second-string DT behind Ed Oliver.
The second-year player made 11 appearances for Buffalo in 2024, making three starts. He registered 14 tackles, five of them for loss, as well as three quarterback hits.
Carter was set for a bigger role with the team in 2025, but is now unfortunately sidelined.
Given the injury, the Bills are expected to give T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker more minutes until veteran Larry Ogunjobi returns from his six-game suspension.
