Football fans are in stitches after vintage Bill Belichick returned for his pre-game interview with ESPN’s Holly Rowe.
The eight-time Super Bowl champion made his college football head coaching debut on Monday evening, with the North Carolina Tar Heels welcoming the TCU Horned Frogs. The 73-year-old Bill Belichick signed a five-year deal worth $50 million last December to take over as head coach of the Tar Heels.
During his 23 years as head coach of the NFL’s New England Patriots, Belichick developed a habit of being gruff, grumpy and a man of few words with the media. Well, the latter habit returned during his pre-game talk with Holly Rowe.
Asked what they worked on in practice that could be executed tonight, Bill Belichick offered the type of answer we miss hearing in Foxborough.
“Hopefully, we can do a good job with our fundamentals: Ball security and communication,” Belichick said.
When Holly Rowe asked about his new cutoff hoodie, Bill Belichick politely declined to go into much detail.
“Yeah, it’s kind of my thing,” Belichick said.
Fans were loving the return of vintage Belichick soundbites.
“Halftime interview will be: “We just got to limit them and get some more points,” said a user.
“Good old Bill with the dry sense of humor lol,” a fan wrote.
“THIS MAN IS A LEGEND,” another said.
“he too locked in,” wrote a fan.
“I wonder how the conversation with his girlfriend go lol,” said another.
“He’s overly transparent,” a user said.
Hopefully, the NCAA schedule makers will soon pit North Carolina against Cincinnati. Then, Belichick will be able to drop the legendary “We’re on to Cincinnati” line.
Speaking of Belichick and the media, he decided not to appear on the Tar Heels’ weekly football radio show. Instead, UNC general manager Michael Lombardi will be the headline guest.
Bill Belichick’s College Coaching Career Is Underway
Much has been made about Belichick’s relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, who’s 49 years younger than the legendary head coach. Some folks think their romance will distract Belichick, so seeing how much of a storyline this is while he tries to rebuild the college football program will be interesting.
Belichick was employed by an NFL team every year from 1975 to 2023. It was a stunner when he was passed over in the 2024 NFL head coach hiring cycle. But if Belichick comes as advertised for the Tar Heels, he’ll get the last laugh on the NFL clubs who passed on him.
