Fans wasted no time hitting out at the NFL following the rendition of the ‘Black National Anthem’ ahead of Thursday night’s season opener between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.

The anthem has been a subject of controversy for as long as it’s been around, at least where the league is concerned. But the cries to ban it, with claims of it being divisive, appear to have fallen on deaf ears, as it was part of the program for the first game of the 2025 NFL season.

Micah Parsons’ mother’s attendance despite her son being traded from Dallas prompted plenty of buzz. However, many were more concerned about said anthem being sung.

You can see some of the most telling reactions below:

“Very disappointing to see @NFL is still sponsoring this divisive “Black National Anthem” bulls**t,” one fan wrote.

“how it feels trying not to laugh during the Black National anthem,” added another.

“This “lift every voice and sing” black national anthem is a disgrace to the NFL and USA!!” said a third.

“Are they booing the black national anthem???” one fan asked.

“NFL, you gotta stop opening the season by singing the “Black National Anthem”… We have one national anthem,” another post read.

At the time of writing, the game was tied at seven points apiece early in the first quarter, with the Eagles shockingly losing defensive tackle Jalen Carter before the first play, with the third-year star getting tossed for spitting on Dak Prescott.
