Laken Snelling might never ever see the light of day again following allegations that she gave birth to a child and then hid her infant’s body in a trash bag inside a closet.

The 21-year-old University of Kentucky athlete faces charges of concealing the birth of an infant, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse.

It all began when the Lexington Police were dispatched to a home on Park Avenue for an unresponsive infant last Wednesday. No one had a clue what they would stumble on after entering the residence.

Police say they found a baby’s body inside a closet, wrapped in a towel, inside a black trash bag.

Lexington Police would later confirm that Laken Snelling was the mother of the deceased infant, and that she “admitted to giving birth.”

She was taken into custody on August 31 after finding the unresponsive infant on August 27, the Lexington Police Department said in a statement.

Originally from White Pine, Tennessee, Snelling is a senior at the school and a member of the University of Kentucky’s cheerleading stunt team.

After her arrest, she was held at the Fayette County Detention Center, but LEX18, citing a court document, reported that after posting a $100,000 bond, she’s now on “home incarceration with no ankle monitor” and is “to live with parents.”

Autopsy Findings Released For Laken Snelling’s Infant

Snelling, a 21-year-old member of the University of Kentucky’s stunt team, now knows that her deceased child was a boy, an autopsy revealed this week.

The preliminary autopsy released by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office and obtained by Oxygen stated: “Preliminary autopsy has been completed; the findings are inconclusive.”

“Extensive microscopic analyses are essential to determine the cause and manner of death,” according to the released report.

Laken Snelling pleaded not guilty in court on Tuesday to concealing the birth of an infant, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse.

Even though she is free, Snelling was ordered to remain in home incarceration and live with her parents.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 26.
