NFL fans are praying for the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings after a video surfaced of Soldier Field crew workers preparing the surface for “Monday Night Football.”
The first “MNF” game of the 2025 season will see JJ McCarthy and the Vikings take on Caleb Williams’ Bears at Soldier Field in an NFC North battle featuring a pair of 2024 first-round picks.
With the Bears working to finalize an agreement on a new stadium, tonight’s contest will likely mark one of the final “MNF” games played at the Bears’ legendary venue. Not that opposing players will complain, given the field’s porous playing surface.
Five hours before kickoff, Chris Hawkey of Kfan posted a video of stadium workers preparing the playing surface on Soldier Field:
Social media is praying for players who must deal with the unfortunate, less-than-ideal playing surface.
“Pray for anyone playing on Soldier Field tonight,” wrote the @BarstoolSports X/Twitter account.
“Players could get hurt. This is ridiculous,” a fan wrote.
“Pathetic and unsafe!” said a user.
“I hate Soldier Field. The condition is always a problem. I pray for no injuries tonight,” wrote a fan.
“🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ Call the Sox’ Roger Bossard,” another commented.
“That seems very unsafe,” said a fan.
Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. EST.
A New Era Of Bears Football Begins At Soldier Field
The Bears haven’t won a playoff game since 2010, and they’ve only made the postseason twice since 2011 (in 2018 and 202). But a new era of Bears football begins this year, led by new head coach Ben Johnson and a rebuilt offensive line has fans optimistic about a turnaround in 2025.
Chicago was dealt one tough blow last month when it was announced that rookie cornerback Zah Frazier will miss all of 2025 for personal reasons.
Caleb Williams has a dynamic set of playmakers in DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, D’Andre Swift, plus rookies Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III. Throw in a stingy defense now led by Dennis Allen, and the Bears have the pieces to re-emerge as a playoff team in 2025.
