A Gold medalist was spotted sleeping in a park on the ground after calling the living conditions in the Olympic Village ‘subpar’.
The Italian swimmer Thomas Ceccon, who won two medals last week, was photographed sleeping outdoors instead of on the Olympic Village, specifially designed to house the world class athletes.
This is not the first mention of bad living conditions during the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. Team USA Coco Gauff shared one of her teammates stopped staying there after complaining it was ‘too cramped’.
French swimmer Assia Touati said: “We had no AC in the bedroom but they installed it anyway because it was getting too hot.”
Australian water polo athlete Matilda Kearns said she had ‘already had a massage to undo the damage’ from the bed.
Ceccon had previously complained about the living conditions to a reporter:
“There is no air conditioning in the village, it’s hot, the food is bad.
“Many athletes move for this reason: it’s not an alibi or excuse, it’s the reality of what perhaps not everyone knows.
“I’m disappointed that I didn’t make the final, but I was too tired. It’s hard to sleep both at night and in the afternoon.
“Usually, when I’m at home, I always sleep in the afternoon: here I really struggle between the heat and the noise.”

The Italian swimming federeation FIN has clarified that the social media footage and photos of Ceccon sleeping outside is not related to these comments about the Olympic Village. Speaking to ANSA, they claimed ‘it was just a nap’,pointing out that the clips were taken in the daytime.
