Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze has been on a tear during the 2025 NFL season.

The Chicago Bears were in a one-score game in a dogfight against the Washington Commanders, but it felt like things could’ve been different if not for one controversial play.

In the second half of the Monday Night Football matchup, the Bears’ offense was driving downfield with their eyes on scoring a touchdown.

Quarterback Caleb Williams lobbed a throw to Rome Odunze in the end zone for what appeared to be a touchdown, but it got wiped off the board due to an illegal formation penalty. The score would’ve increased the lead to 23-10.

Not many fans agreed with the call, and Troy Aikman, who was calling the game, was not a fan of the call at all.

Troy Aikman Tries To See The Penalty That Screwed Rome Odunze And The Bears

The Chicago Bears looked good on their opening drive of the third quarter against the Washington Commanders in Week 6 before a penalty stalled the drive.

It was a drive where Caleb Williams connected with Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III on big pass plays before getting into the red zone.

Williams was able to connect with Odunze on an 11-yard touchdown catch that got called back because of an illegal formation on the left tackle, Theo Benedet.

That backed them up five yards, and Williams got sacked on third down. It forced the Bears to settle for a field goal instead.

On the broadcast, Troy Aikman tried his best to figure out the penalty and relay that to millions of people watching at home, but the closer he looked at the replay, the more he could find nothing that would get the ref to throw his flag.

The penalty ended Rome Odunze’s consecutive touchdown streak as he had scored at least one in every game this year.

This is not the first time that Troy Aikman has taken aim at refs.

During the playoffs, Aikman ripped the league apart during the Chiefs-Texans game over a hit on Patrick Mahomes that was called.
