San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has clearly put the work in the gym this offseason.

Proving his 2022 rookie year was no fluke, Brock Purdy put together an MVP-caliber 2023 campaign by going 12-4 as a starter with 4,280 passing yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Purdy helped the 49ers to their first Super Bowl appearance in four years, where they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime. And let’s just say that the heartbreaking defeat clearly motivated Purdy to get bigger and stronger:

On the 49ers’ team website, Brock Purdy is listed at 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds. But the 2022 “Mr. Irrelevant” looks bigger than that after putting on a ton of muscle during the offseason, as you can see in this interview he did with Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports:

And fans noticed the drastic change in Purdy’s physique:

Brock Purdy took over as the 49ers’ starting QB late in the 2022 campaign after Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a season-ending foot injury. Jimmy G’s injury came 11 weeks after starter Trey Lance suffered a gruesome ankle injury that ended his season.

But Purdy’s immediate success prompted the 49ers to move on from Garoppolo (signed with the Las Vegas Raiders) and Trey Lance (traded to the Dallas Cowboys). With a 17-4 record and 44 touchdowns against 15 interceptions to begin his career, Purdy has asserted himself as the long-term starter in San Fran.

Brock Purdy & 49ers Open Season vs. Jets

The 49ers will be tested early, when they welcome old friend Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets to Levi’s Stadium in their home opener on Sept. 9. Barring a Super Bowl showdown, this will be Rodgers’ last meeting against his childhood team.

After hosting the four-time MVP and his Jets on “Monday Night Football”, Kyle Shanahan’s squad will pack up and travel to Minnesota for a Week 2 showdown against the Vikings.
