United States President Donald Trump is taking heat following a curious decision involving golf while the government deals with a crisis.
The government is currently shut down, with over 750,000 employees on furlough. However, it’s understood to be business as usual for Trump, where his favorite activity is concerned.
The POTUS has continued with his plans for golf trips in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, and Florida.
Of course, that’s never going to go down well with the wider public, and the Associated Press has slammed him over it.
“Ballroom, golf and trips,” they wrote.
“Trump is on a six-day swing through Asia, after a recent, whirlwind Middle East visit. He hosted a White House fundraiser for major donors to his $300 million ballroom that has seen construction crews tear down the East Wing, and held another fundraiser at his Florida estate.”
Trump is indeed renovating the White House to the tune of $300 million, although he insists the money won’t come from taxpayers’ pockets. Additionally, a nearby golf course is set to benefit from the construction.
The White House Says Donald Trump Is Working Hard Despite The Optics
The 79-year-old’s response to this year’s government shutdown is different from what he did under similar circumstances in 2018. Back then, he stopped golfing and canceled a Christmas trip to Florida.
This time around, it doesn’t appear that any plans have changed. However, the White House has stated that the President is working diligently on behalf of the American people.
“President Trump is continuing to work night and day on behalf of American people,” White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson declared. “The entire administration, including the president, will continue highlighting the workers and families who are suffering because of the Democrats’ decision to shut down the government.”
The President was recently the target of ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, who criticized him over something completely different around a week ago.
The ‘First Take’ host made some strong claims about Donald Trump being behind the arrests of Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier, suggesting he’s on the warpath and that all sports leagues should watch out.
On the other hand, he’s being quoted by Bill Belichick during press conferences, so he should be pleased about that.
