Randi Mahomes is feeling it for her son.
Randi Mahomes, the mother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, is asking for prayers.
The Chiefs QB sustained a knee injury during a loss against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night. He went down without contact, with his knee buckling underneath him, and needed help to get into the locker room.
Gardner Minshew stepped in for Mahomes after he exited the game, with 2:00 minutes left on the clock. He ended up throwing an interception that sealed the win for the Chargers and ensured that there would be no playoff football for the Chiefs this season.
Head coach Andy Reid confessed that the injury did not look good following the loss.
“As far as the injuries go,” he said. “Patrick hurt his left knee. We’ll get an MRI tomorrow or this evening, whenever they get him in there. Then Jaylon Moore, likewise, left knee. Then Thornton got hit in the head. We’ll just see where he’s at, but he’s in the protocol right now.”
“I don’t know, but it didn’t look good. You guys saw it. We’ll just see where it goes,” he added.
Randi Mahomes’ Reaction Said It All After The Chiefs Confirmed Patrick Mahomes Had A Torn ACL
It has since been announced that the QB suffered an ACL tear.
“An MRI has confirmed that Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes sustained a torn ACL in his left knee in today’s game. Patrick and the club are currently exploring surgical options,” the Chiefs confirmed.
Mahomes was understandably distraught after the results came back.
“Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it’s hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I Will be back stronger than ever ⏰,” he wrote in a tweet.
His mother reacted to his message with heart and prayer emojis.
The injury came as a double blow for Kansas City, which has been eliminated from playoff contention for the first time since 2014.
The last time they didn’t make it to the postseason, Mahomes was still three years removed from being drafted. Both of these situations are uncharted territory for him.
