Body Of Missing Triathlete Discovered After Being Spotted In Shark’s Mouth

Erica Fox disappeared underwater while swimming with her husband.

The body of a triathlete who lost her life in a shark attack has been recovered.

News of Erica Fox’s disappearance broke after she was attacked by a marine predator earlier this month. She had been swimming with her husband off the coast of California.

Her body was not found immediately and was missing for a week. However, on Saturday, it was discovered approximately 25 miles from where she was last seen, according to the New York Post. It was still in the black wetsuit she was wearing.

Erica was 55.

Jean-Francois Vanreusel told the Mercury News that he was swimming around 100 yards behind Erica and other members of a local swimming club on December 21. She disappeared after a shark dragged her into the water.

They had been married for 30 years.

According to a Coast Guard official, eyewitnesses saw the shark with a human body in its jaws before it submerged.

Witnesses reported seeing a shark with a human body in its jaws before it submerged, a Coast Guard official said, according to ABC News.

“She didn’t want to live in fear,” Vanreusel said during a shoreline procession on Sunday.

“She lived her life fully.”

He also revealed that she was still wearing a “shark band,” a device intended to ward off sharks, around her ankle.

Erica Fox The Second Member Of Her Group Attacked By A Shark

Erica Fox’s death marks just the second from a shark attack at Lovers Point in 73 years and the first since a 17-year-old boy was killed in December 1952. However, it was the second attack involving someone from the Kelp Krawlers group, which was co-founded by Fox.

Another member, Steve Bruemmer, was bitten on the leg in 2022 but was saved by paddleboarders.

Sharen Carey, who has been swimming with the group for over 10 years, wondered, “Will people get back in the ocean? Will they get back in the ocean, but not here?”

“I don’t think anyone knows at the moment, because I think we’re all just still in shock, disbelief and grief, not knowing what we need to do next, except to love and support each other,” she added.

Our hearts go out to Erica’s family following this unthinkable tragedy.
