Nicolas Maduro was extremely polite.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro had an unexpected start to the new year, but he’s not all that bitter about it.
The U.S. military captured the 63-year-old as part of an operation that saw them launch multiple strikes in Caracas on Saturday morning.
Both Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were taken into custody.
American President Donald Trump later took to his Truth Social platform to announce as much, before conducting an official press conference.
“We are going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition,” Trump said during the press conference.
He continued:
“We don’t want to be involved with having somebody else get in, and we have the same situation that we had for the last long period of years, so we are going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition.”
The POTUS added that Maduro and his wife will face the full extent of American justice.
Nicolas Maduro Facing Multiple Serious Charges
Maduro arrived at the DEA headquarters in New York in handcuffs. He was not wearing the Nike outfit that went viral. However, his three-word message has been trending all the same.
A camera caught the Venezuelan leader wishing DEA agents a “Happy New Year.”
Check him out below:
Maduro is facing charges of Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States.
The case will be closely followed around the world, given its magnitude.
