These Olympic Games have been nothing short of entertaining. But perhaps no one expected the pole vaulting competitions to be as dramatic as they have been.
Last week, we saw a male competitor fail to qualify for an opportunity to win a medal because his oversized bulge got in the way. Videos of his unfortunate penile sabotage trended online for several days while he has seen his social media following blow up.
This week belonged to a female, with Canadian Alysha Newman beginning to trend after clearing a 4.85-meter vault and then twerking in celebration.

Alysha Newman Has Made Canada Proud
Alysha Newman, who arrived in Paris, France, for her third Olympic Games, has made it to her first final. She has also secured a bronze medal for Team Canada, which is the first ever in such regard.
The 30-year-old quickly endeared herself to fans by striking a pose when she was introduced. Then she went on to clear the 4.85m to beat her previous best of 4.82m and ensure she would make it to the podium.
Newman’s exploits have also seen her snatch the highest place at the Olympics by a Canadian female since Dana Ellis grabbed sixth place in 2004.
Newman will share the podium with Australia’s Nina Kennedy and Team USA’s Katie Moon. The former jumped for 4.90m while the latter also clocked 4.85m.
Newman cleared 4.55m to qualify for the final.
She will look to go all the way after experiencing the disappointment of having to pull out of the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championship because of an ankle injury.
