Sha’Carri Richardson demonstrated why she’s considered one of the top sprinters globally, igniting her speed to propel the United States to victory in their heat and into the final of the women’s 4x100m relay on Thursday at the Stade de France during the Paris Olympics.
Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry, running the two initial legs for Team USA, kept the team in a leading position. However, there was a moment of concern when Terry passed the baton to 200m gold medalist Gabby Thomas, with the exchange being somewhat unstable, causing a slight deceleration in Team USA’s rhythm.
Nevertheless, Thomas, holding onto second place, passed the baton to Richardson, who surged ahead and delivered a stunning final leg, overtaking Germany’s Rebekka Haase and securing the heat win for the Americans with an overall time of 41.94 seconds.
Jefferson (11.34), Terry (10.02), and Thomas (10.59) all posted commendable times, but Richardson shifted into a higher gear, clocking a 9.99 in the final stretch.
