Jordan Chiles ordered to return her bronze medal to the Olympic Committee after court dismissed her appeal regarding the medal decision.
Jordan Chiles, a talented gymnast from the United States, recently faced a significant setback.
A court dismissed her appeal regarding the bronze medal she earned at the Olympics.
This decision means she must return her medal to the Olympic Committee, a situation that has caused disappointment and frustration for the young athlete.
The gymnast Jordan Chiles received the bronze medal after a score challenge.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Chiles was awarded the bronze medal following her floor exercise routine.
She initially received a score of 13.666, which placed her in fifth position.
However, U.S. coach Cecile Landi filed an inquiry about Chiles’ difficulty score, and she was awarded an additional 0.1 points.
This pushed her up to third place, ahead of gymnasts from Romania and the United States.
Jordan Chiles forced to return bronze medal to Olympic Committee after court dismissed her appeal
The Romanian team filed a complaint, arguing that the USA Gymnastics coaches made their inquiry after the one-minute deadline.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) accepted Romania’s argument and decided not to recognize Chiles’ victory.
The U.S. team attempted to appeal this decision, presenting video evidence to prove that they had submitted the inquiry within the time limit.
However, CAS rejected this appeal and ordered Chiles to return the bronze medal.
They will now award this medal to Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu, who is elevated to third place.
“USA Gymnastics received notification from CAS on Monday.
The notification stated that their rules do not permit reconsideration of an arbitral award, even with new evidence,” USA Gymnastics revealed.
The USA Gymnastics added: “We are deeply disappointed by the notification.
We will continue to pursue every possible avenue and appeal process, including to the Swiss Federal Tribunal, to ensure the just scoring, placement, and medal award for Jordan.”
The CAS decision is said to be not further appealable.
As a result, they will require Chiles to return the bronze medal, which they will then award to Bărbosu.
Nevertheless, people still regard Chiles as an outstanding athlete, and she has received support from her teammates and competitors.
Jordan Chiles expressed deep sadness at this outcome.
She has chosen to temporarily step away from the spotlight to focus on her mental health.
Chiles’ teammate, Simone Biles, who won the silver medal, has voiced her support for Chiles, encouraging her to stay strong.
The Romanian gymnast Bărbosu, who received the bronze medal, reached out to Chiles.
She shared her own experiences of facing a similar situation.
Bărbosu expressed hope that in the next Olympics, all three gymnasts will stand on the podium together.
“I know what you are feeling, because I’ve been through the same. But I know you’ll come back stronger.
“I hope from deep of my heart that at the next Olympics, all three of us will share same podium. This is my true dream,” she wrote.
