For many, the bathroom offers a brief escape from the chaos of the workday, but for one Thai man, it became a scene of horror.
Thanat Thangtewanon experienced excruciating pain just moments after sitting on his toilet, only to discover that a large python was the source of his agony.
Recounting the terrifying incident, Thanat said, “I felt something biting my balls. It was very painful, so I put my hands in the toilet to see what was wrong. I was shocked that I grabbed a snake. I quickly stood up and plucked it out. I felt pain, really bad pain, and there was blood everywhere, but I was more shocked to have found a python in the toilet.”
In a desperate attempt to free himself, Thanat immediately grabbed a toilet brush and began striking the 12-foot snake as hard as he could. Eventually, the snake loosened its grip on his testicles and died.

Following the traumatic encounter, Thanat was rushed to the hospital, where he received a tetanus shot. Given the amount of blood and the nature of the attack, one might expect his injuries to be severe. However, doctors determined that the damage was less serious than initially feared, requiring only stitches that would heal within a few weeks.
“My testicles are safe now. I’m lucky it wasn’t a venomous snake. A cobra would have killed me,” Thanat said, relieved. “But I haven’t used that toilet again since. Every time I go, I check what’s inside and put a brush in there to make sure.”

The snake in question was a reticulated python, a species commonly found throughout Thailand and Southeast Asia. These snakes typically inhabit forests, swamps, and canals, but they occasionally make their way into urban areas, leading to encounters like Thanat’s.
Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time a python has attacked someone in the bathroom. In 2016, Attaporn Boonmakchuay faced a similarly horrifying situation when a python latched onto his penis during an unexpected trip to the toilet. Although Attaporn lost consciousness from severe blood loss, he thankfully survived after receiving hospital treatment.
