It’s surprising to realize that Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler have only collaborated on three films, given the undeniable chemistry they have on screen.
The duo first teamed up for Just Go with It in 2011 and later reunited for Murder Mystery in 2019, followed by the sequel, Murder Mystery 2, which was released last year.
Both have spoken openly about their enduring friendship, with Aniston, 55, once describing her co-star as “one of the kindest, most genuine people I know.” Sandler, 57, similarly praised Aniston, saying she is “as funny as she is professional.”
However, things took a surprising turn when Aniston discovered what Sandler had gifted his Grown Ups co-stars.
Sandler, who starred in, co-wrote, and produced Grown Ups (2010) and Grown Ups 2 (2013), was with Aniston while promoting Murder Mystery 2 during a 2023 interview with USA Today.
Journalist Erin Jensen brought up the extravagant farewell gifts Sandler had given his Grown Ups castmates.
For context, Sandler reportedly bought his co-stars David Spade, Kevin James, Chris Rock, and Rob Schneider a Maserati each, with the cars estimated to be worth around $200,000 (approximately £130,000 at the time).
Aniston was taken aback and exclaimed, “You gave your co-stars Maseratis?” before playfully pretending to storm off the set.
Sandler, caught off guard, started to ramble, recalling how Aniston had once said she didn’t “need fancy things.” He even jokingly claimed that he had bought her a supercar for working with him.
David Spade previously recounted the story in an interview, saying: “He gave us all a Maserati. Chris Rock called me and he goes, ‘Will you look in your driveway?’ And I go, ‘No,’ and he goes, ‘Go out front and call me.’ So I go out front and they’re putting a car in my driveway, and I go, ‘What’s happening?’ And they go, ‘Adam Sandler.’ I go, ‘Oh, is this his car? I’m supposed to watch it?’”
Spade continued: “I call Rock and I go, ‘I’m keeping Adam’s car here for some reason,’ and he goes, ‘No, that’s for you. We all got one.’”
Meanwhile, Chris Rock humorously shared his reaction on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno back in 2010: “I went outside the other day and I had a new Maserati in the driveway. Now I think that I’m Adam Sandler’s b****.”
