Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe made a hilarious albeit embarrassing blunder during one of his popular anti-Dallas Cowboys rants on ESPN’s “First Take” program.
Shannon Sharpe joined the latest “First Take” edition with Stephen A. Smith and Bart Scott. At one point in the show, the trio discussed how many NFC teams were ahead of the Dallas Cowboys.
The three-time Super Bowl champion put the San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams above the Cowboys. That’s where Sharpe made a notable blunder while analyzing the Rams’ offense:
“Because of the way they finished last year, Cam Akers running the football. Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp is completely healthy…I’ll put the Rams in front of the Cowboys. So I will say at least four (NFC teams are better than the Cowboys).”

The only issue on Sharpe’s take? For starters, Cam Akers is a member of the Houston Texans and not the Rams. And it’s actually been 11 months since Los Angeles traded Akers to the Minnesota Vikings.
Later on in the segment, Shannnon Sharpe corrected his mistake.
“I misspoke,” Sharpe said. “Cam Akers is now with the Houston Texans. But if you look at the way the Rams ran the ball last year at the end of the season Stephen A., I have confidence that they’re gonna come in and do that again this year…I still have the Rams in front of the Cowboys.”

The Texans signed Akers to a one-year deal last month, adding insurance to a deep running back room that already features offseason pickup Joe Mixon and 2022 rookie standout Dameon Pierce.
Akers was a second-round pick (52nd overall) by the Rams in 2020. He helped the team to a Super Bowl 56 championship in his sophomore season, but a string of injuries have unfortunately limited him to 36 total NFL games over his first four years.
Shannon Sharpe’s Take On The Cowboys Is A Hot One
Sharpe is a renowned Cowboys critic, which made him the perfect partner for Dallas superfan Skip Bayless on the “Undisputed” program for seven years. Sharpe left the show and FS1 last year, and “Undisputed” was canceled after FOX decided not to renew Bayless’ contract.
The 49ers and Lions played in the NFC Championship Game last year, and the Packers crushed Dallas in the Wild Card Round. So it’s understandable that Sharpe would put those three ahead of Dallas, but his take on the Rams being a better team is sure to draw plenty of outcry from Cowboys fans.
