The Kansas City Chiefs are heading into a campaign from which they are desperate to emerge as Super Bowl winners as another successful season would make them three-peat champs.
However, there is a situation hanging over them, with their best receiver from last season, Rashee Rice, facing a potential suspension.
Rice is in some serious legal trouble following an arrest for taking part in an illegal street race that caused a multi-car accident in Dallas, Texas, earlier in the offseason, and he is expected to be punished by the NFL.
A statement has finally come from the league ahead of the start of the regular season which suggests that there will be a wait before they act, per Mark Maske of the Washington Post.
“We continue to closely monitor all developments in the matter which remains under review,” it reads. We will let the legal process play out before making any decisions.”
According to Maske, the league will not send the wideout on paid leave via the commissioner’s exempt list, so he will be free to play until his legal process is over.

Rashee Rice Facing Eight Felony Charges
Rice is facing eight felony charges for his involvement in the crash. He also found himself in some more trouble weeks later as a photographer accused him of hitting him in the face at a Dallas nightclub.
The accuser has since asked for his complaint to be withdrawn, but it appears police are prepared to proceed with investigations.
The NFL’s stance on the matter will be appreciated by the Chiefs, who need all the help they can get in their pursuit of a third consecutive championship. However, they could end up losing the second-year star later in the season, which could impact their title charge.
