The Miami Police Department seemingly threw shade at Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, two days after his widely-publicized detainment controversy.

Officers of the Miami-Dade Police Department detained Tyreek Hill during his commute to the Dolphins’ Week 1 opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday morning because of a traffic violation. Police bodycam footage and witness videos showed officers forcing Hill out of his car before handcuffing and slamming him to the ground.

The officers also handcuffed Dolphins defensive tackle Calais Campbell, who was trying to de-escalate the situation. The officers on the scene have received widespread criticism for their aggressive antics and behavior toward Hill and Campbell.

Amid the backlash toward the Miami-Dade PD, the Miami Police Department’s X/Twitter account posted a tweet that warned citizens about the dangers of speeding. Given the timing of the tweet, it’s fair to wonder if they did this to attack Hill and share support for the fellow offers:

Everyone immediately jumped on the MPD for the interestingly-timed tweet:

After witness videos of the incident emerged on Sunday, Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie V. Daniels announced that one of the officers had been placed on administrative leave.

Daniels also announced on Monday that the decision was made to release the police bodycam video on Monday to maintain transparency with the public.

Tyreek Hill Led Dolphins To Thrilling Week 1 Victory

The 30-year-old Hill put the incident behind him and returned to his usual form on the football field once the game commenced. Hill finished the day with seven receptions for 130 yards, including a game-changing 80-yard TD in the third quarter.

Hill’s big touchdown sparked Miami’s comeback, with Jason Sanders adding a pair of fourth-quarter field goals to lift Miami to a 20-17 victory. With the victory, Miami has now won four straight season openers.

The Dolphins will try to keep the momentum going when they host Josh Allen and the AFC East rival Buffalo Bills on Thursday night.
