Kathy Bates recently opened up about her 100-pound weight loss over the past six years, amid speculation from fans that she might be using Ozempic.
The 76-year-old Misery actress, who also announced her plans to retire after her role in CBS’ Matlock reboot, discussed her weight loss journey in an interview with Variety.
Reflecting on her health transformation, Bates shared, “It was hard for me to walk. I’m ashamed I let myself get so out of shape, but now I have a tremendous amount of energy.”

Some fans speculated that Bates might have used Ozempic, with one commenting, “They got Kathy Bates on Ozempic???? D**n,” and another noting, “We’re losing our fat empresses…”
Bates previously discussed her health in a 2019 interview with Extra, saying, “This is the best health I’ve been in years, and I’m so grateful – it’s a miracle.” She revealed her weight loss motivation came from facing diabetes, a condition that runs in her family.

In addition to her health struggles, including ovarian and breast cancer diagnoses, Bates also battled lymphedema following a double mastectomy. Now, she is preparing to retire, but she admits acting has been a significant part of her life. “This is my last dance,” Bates said of her post-Matlock career.
