ESPN has reportedly cut ties with senior NBA writer Zach Lowe amid a period of high-profile layoffs.
Lowe, who has been with the company for over a decade, is leaving as part of the network’s plan to continue cutting costs.
Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reported as much this Thursday, noting that neither The Worldwide Leader in Sports nor Lowe responded to a request for comment.

“ESPN has parted ways with NBA senior writer Zach Lowe as part of the network’s continuing layoffs, sources briefed on the decision told The Athletic on Thursday,” he revealed.
“Lowe follows the earlier dismissals of NFL personalities, Robert Griffin III and Sam Ponder. The moves are part of the network’s fiscal year planning that ends at the conclusion of September. ESPN and Lowe both declined to comment.”
ESPN Decided To Part Ways With Zach Lowe Because He Was Making Too Much Money
One of ESPN’s more seasoned NBA reporters, Zach Lowe, spent 12 years with the network, starting with the company’s long-form site, Grantland. In addition to his writing duties, he appeared on their television shows and ran a podcast called “Lowe Post.”
It’s reported that his salary, which was more than seven figures a year, was the main reason for the layoff.

“Lowe’s salary, which was in excess of seven figures annually, was the biggest factor in ESPN’s decision, according to sources briefed on the terms of his contract,” Marchand added.
ESPN’s coverage of the NBA should be very different next season as their most prominent insider, Adrian Wojnarowski, surprisingly left to manage a college basketball team last week.
