Ohio State reporter Dave Biddle has made claims of the program missing out on a five-star recruit because they were priced out.
This complements the Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day previously stating that the university would need around $13 million to keep the team’s roster together on the back of Name, Image, and Likeness coming into play.
Speaking on 97.1 The Fan this Tuesday, Biddle stated that the Buckeyes lost out on a certain recruit because they couldn’t afford to pay him half of what he was asking for, while their proposal paled in comparison to the $1.8 million signing fee plus the $800,000-a-season Georgia promised him.
“Ohio State missed out on a 5 star recruit because they could not pay him even half of what he was looking for,” Biddle offered. “They didn’t get him over $750k. UGA offered the kid 1.8M to sign and 800k/season… OSU couldn’t get him more than 500K.”

Former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones sees things a little differently, however, tweeting that the recruit missed out on a chance to be a part of something special.
“OSU didn’t MISS OUT on any kid just chasing NIL money,” Jones wrote in response. “Maybe that kid missed out on a opportunity to be a part of something amazing that’s going to last longer than any amount of money! Maybe that kid MISSED OUT on OSU! maybe get the facts straight.”
It’s all about perspective, right? But there’s little doubt that NIL is impacting college sports, as much as it’s been a long time coming where athletes are concerned.
