What is going on with Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers?
On Monday, an Instagram account from 247Sports said the Longhorns quarterback decided to sit out the remainder of the 2024 season following a rough outing against the Georgia Bulldogs that saw Texas coach Steve Sarkisian bench him.
Following that Instagram post, 247Sports would quickly delete it and claim that they were hacked.

Per Pete Thamel and CJ Vogel, Ewers practiced with Texas on Monday in preparation for Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt and refuted the claim when writing “Fake News!” in the caption of an Instagram Stories post.

With the Longhorns trailing 20–0 on Saturday, Sarkisian had seen enough, replacing Quinn Ewers with redshirt freshman star quarterback Arch Manning in the second quarter.
Ewers returned in the second half and finished 25 of 43 for 211 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.
The No. 1 prospect in the 2021 class started his career at Ohio State before transferring to Texas for the 2022 season.
He had his breakout year last year when he led the Longhorns to a College Football Playoff berth in 2023, throwing for 3,479 yards with 22 touchdowns and just six interceptions.
Multiple NFL draft analysts have Ewers going in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.
Despite swirling rumors, Texas is still on top with a 6-1 record while being 2-1 in the SEC.
Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian Makes it Clear Quinn Ewers Is The Starting QB after Benching
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian remains confident in his starter even after benching him for two series at the end of the first half against Georgia.
Despite being sent to the bench, he clarified that the team is still rolling with him.
“Quinn’s our starting quarterback,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said in his postgame press conference on Saturday night. “I appreciate the fact we’re fortunate enough to have a backup like Arch that could come into the game and provide a spark in some sense. At the end of the day, Quinn’s our starter. I think, like I said, we’ve got to do a better job around him. I think he would tell you he can play better, but we’ve got to coach better. Everybody’s got to be better for our offense to perform better.”
