The Dallas Cowboys made of the worst mistakes you’ll ever see during the fourth quarter of Monday night’s loss against the Cincinnati Bengals. The mistake was so costly, it had Jerry Jones visibly upset.
With two minutes remaining, Dallas blocked Cincinnati’s punt and was in position to orchestrate a game-winning drive. That was until the ball bounced towards Amani Oruwariye, who fumbled the recovery and allowed the Bengals to regain possession. A few plays later, Joe Burrow hit Ja’Marr Chase on what ended up being a game-winning touchdown pass.
After the game, Jerry Jones reportedly confronted special teams coordinator John Fassel just before he entered the locker room. Although it wasn’t the first time this has happened, Fassel told reporters that it wasn’t really a “normal” encounter.
Fassel took accountability for the Cowboys’ brutal error on Monday night. He also provided an explanation as to what went on in Oruwariye’s head.
Monday’s loss was a huge blow to the Cowboys’ slim chance of making the post season. If they want any chance at playing post season ball this year, they’ll have to win out and hope they get a lot of help from other teams.
The Cowboys have games against the Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders remaining on their schedule. We’ll see if they can shake off their prime-time collapse and get back in the win column.
