The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a rather scary injury to their defensive secondary during the second quarter of their Week 15 game against the Cleveland Browns.
Chiefs second-year DB Chamarri Conner went to make a routine tackle on Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb. Conner’s helmet and Chubb’s knee/thigh pad collided on the play, and he immediately went down on the field.
CBS went on a commercial break, and when they returned, the training staff and his teammates helped Conner up while escorting him off the field. He looked dazed, confused, and slightly out of it, but he seemed responsive and reactive, speaking with his teammates as he left the field.
The team ruled Conner out with a concussion just after the start of the second half of the Week 15 game.
Conner, a former 2023 NFL draft pick out of Virginia Tech, has 68 total tackles this season, one sack, and two interceptions. He’s mostly played the nickel position. Chiefs UDFA DB Christian Roland-Wallace replaced him on the field after the injury. Keep in mind that the Chiefs have been tested in the secondary already with the injury to CB Jaylen Watson. They signed Steven Nelson to the practice squad this week, but he’s not yet available to play for Kansas City.
