Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was in unfamiliar territory on Sunday afternoon while riding the bench. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is used to dominating on the field, but after the team locked up the No. 1 seed in the AFC on Christmas with a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, head coach Andy Reid made the smart decision to rest his starters in the season-finale against the Denver Broncos. Just because he wasn’t play, though, doesn’t mean Mahomes wasn’t locked in to the game. Cameras caught the star quarterback on the sideline giving the officials some grief following a play. “patrick is mad af while travis is like ‘what am i even doing here, i could be eating homemade pop tarts rn, why did we take off yesterday?’” joked one account.
Perhaps Mahomes is mad the team will be stranded in Denver for a night before flying back to Kansas City on Monday. “Kansas City has to stay overnight in Denver because of weather issues in KC. 8 inches of snow have already fallen and they are expecting up to 12 inches. There is 2 inches of ice underneath the snow and airport is closed. They will leave tomorrow morning,” veteran NFL sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson said. Kansas City will get to sit back and relax while watching the wild card round of the playoffs next weekend.
